FIFA caves to Tuchel's gripe, overhauls World Cup anthem protocol
England boss complained photographer wall blocked his view during national anthem

FIFA has actually listened to complaints for once. After Thomas Tuchel griped that a sea of photographers ruined his experience during England's anthem, the governing body has immediately changed how they handle pre-match protocols at the World Cup.
The problem Tuchel spotted
The England manager was pretty vocal about his frustration following the Three Lions' impressive 4-2 win over Croatia. Standing front and centre, Tuchel found himself staring directly at roughly 50 cameramen packed shoulder-to-shoulder, completely blocking his view of his own players singing the national anthem. He literally begged FIFA to sort it out, calling it a "very, very special moment" that got spoilt by the wall of lenses.
How FIFA responded
Rather than ignoring him like they normally do, FIFA has actually moved to fix the issue. According to reports, staff will now be repositioned down the touchline instead of staying planted in front of the benches. This means managers and their entourage can actually see what's happening during the anthem without needing X-ray vision.
Why this matters now
This year's World Cup format changed things up. Instead of just the starting eleven lining up in front of the benches like in previous tournaments, entire squads now gather around the centre circle for the anthem. That extra space and repositioning created the perfect storm of photographers blocking sightlines. Tuchel's complaint forced FIFA's hand before it became a bigger headache for other managers.
Interestingly, Tuchel had already confirmed he wouldn't be singing along with the anthem himself, saying he was "still a little shy" about it. But now at least he'll be able to properly watch his players belt it out when England face Ghana next Tuesday.
What's next
With a record-breaking 48 nations competing this tournament, it's refreshing FIFA actually responded to feedback this quickly. Whether Tuchel's team can bring football home after 60 years remains another question entirely.
