Three bungee jump instructors have left cops baffled after repeatedly saying they simply cannot remember why a safety rope wasn't attached before a young woman plunged to her death. Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, fell more than 130 feet at Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, Brazil on Saturday while the workers watched on.

The fatal oversight

Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, Vitor de Freitas Gonçalves, 27, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42, were arrested following the tragedy. Police have charged all three with homicide with implied malice. Video footage shows the horrifying moment Maria was held in the air before being released into a free fall, with voices shouting in the background: "the rope, people, the rope."

Questions left unanswered

During questioning, the workers' responses were frustratingly vague. Luis and Maicon both admitted setting up the safety equipment but couldn't explain how tasks were divided between them. When pressed about who was responsible for final safety checks on Maria's harness, Luis simply told police: "I can't remember." He earned roughly £26 per jump. The trio claimed team members had no specific responsibilities and that equipment checks happened jointly, with no formal process in place.

Suspicious details emerge

Witness Rafael Goulart described seeing one of the workers removing a GoPro camera from Maria's body after she'd already fallen. He suggested the employee appeared either concerned about the equipment or potentially trying to hide evidence. Vitor, when asked about the camera's disappearance, couldn't provide an explanation. After the incident, police said at least two of the workers allegedly changed their clothes and attempted to flee, though they were tracked down by helicopter and arrested at the bridge.

Legal pushback

The men's lawyer, Rafael Gomes dos Santos, has pushed back against the homicide charges, insisting his clients never intended to cause death and describing the incident as a tragic accident rather than intentional harm. Maria's mother, Valdenia Rodrigues, broke her silence with an emotional tribute, describing the forgotten rope as "damned and cursed." The aspiring teacher from Jandira had no idea the critical safety equipment hadn't been secured before she was launched into the void.
